Obituary: BOORMAN, Tryphena
Obituary: BOORMAN, Tryphena
The death occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the residence of her son Mr. John SHORT, of Mrs. Tryphena SHORT, relict of the late Mr. John SHORT, at the age of 93. Deceased went from the Hunter River about 70 years ago to the Clarence and with her husband settled on the land at Southgate. About 50 years ago her husband died and Mrs. SHORT was left to her own resources. In those days the life of a pioneer on the Clarence was acompanied by hardships of such a nature that called for all the resources that only those who have had to go through the adversities know. Mrs. SHORT cared for her family of four sons and four daughters and leaves five of her family to mourn her loss. The living are: Messrs. Henry Thomas and John (Dorrigo), Newton (Clarence River), Mesdames Reuben DOUST (Bellingen), C. PULLEN (Brighton-le-sands). Deceased was predeceased by Samuel James (Dorrigo) and Misses Ethel and Isaura. Deceased although she met with an accident about three years ago and sustained a broken arm, the shock of which was so great that she was compelled to take to her bed and was bedridden until she passed away on Tuesday, retained all her faculties up to a few minutes before she died. Her birthday was celebrated on the 3rd of June (the birthday of the late King) and it is a coincidence that although she was 22 years older that her Soveriegn, whom she held in the greatest respect, she passed out of this temporal state a few hours after the King. Following the service in the Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon the cortege moved to the Dorrigo Cemetery where the remains were interred. Rev C. C. CASHIN officiated at the graveside and Mr. R. HILL had charge of the arrangements.
