      Quite a gloom settled on a number of friends of Mr. Sam Short when they heard of the death of his wife yesterday. Mr. Short has a long association with the Clarence Show. Fellow members greatly missed his companionship at the show yesterday. They all wished to express sincere sympathy.

      Members of the Grafton branch of the Red Cross at their meeting yesterday stood in silence as a mark of sympathy to the husband and son of the late Mrs. A. F. Beckman, and the relatives of the late Mrs. S. H. Short. Mrs. Beckman had been a great worker for the Grafton branch. Mrs. Short was a past president of the Lower Southgate branch.
