Obituary: SHORT, Edith



The death occurred suddenly in the Byron Hospital, Bangalow, of Mrs. Edith Gillies, aged 72 years, relict of the late Donald Gillies, who died 22 years ago.

She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Short, pioneers of Lower Southgate, Clarence River.

She had lived on the Clarence River until moving to the Richmond River 30 years ago.

She is survived by three sons, Clyde, Arthur and Malcolm, of Bangalow, and four daughters, Ivy (Mrs. H. W. Davison, Tyagarah), Mavis (Mrs. M. Creighton, Tyagarah), Edie (Mrs. Geoff Eyears, Federal), and Beryl (Bangalow). Samuel Short, formerly of Lower Southgate, is a brother, and sisters are Mrs. F. Young (Alumny Creek, Grafton), Mrs. A. R. Clark (Ballina), and Mrs. J. C. McDonald (Sydney).

The funeral took place in the Presbyterian portion of the Lismore cemetery after a service in the Presbyterian Church, Bangalow, conducted by Rev. J. S. Buck. The pall-bearers at the church were Messrs. Clyde (son), H. Davison. M. Creighton, Geoff Eyears (sons-in-law), S. H. Short (brother), and G. Young (nephew). At the graveside, Messrs. S. H. Short and G. Young were replaced by Messrs. Arthur and Malcolm (sons).
